What Are Some Signs I Should Visit My Dentist Right Away?

Most of our patients come to see us at least twice a year for regular exams and cleanings. However, we’re also available for urgent, walk-in dental care when the need arises. Signs you should visit your dentist for emergency dental care include the following:

  • Tooth sensitivity
  • Bleeding gums
  • Lost fillings or crowns
  • Toothache
  • Chronic headaches
  • Swelling or tenderness in the gums
  • Difficulty chewing or swallowing
  • Mouth sores that won’t go away
  • Dry mouth
  • Chronic bad breath
  • Personal history of gum disease or tooth decay

My Gums Bleed When I Brush or Floss. What Causes Bleeding Gums?

If your gums bleed when you brush or floss, you could have periodontal (gum) disease. Gum disease is usually progressive and may be caused by poor oral hygiene or a chronic condition such as diabetes. If caught early enough, gum disease is treatable before it can cause other issues such as tooth decay or tooth loss. If you’ve noticed bleeding gums, we advise you to call our dental clinic and schedule an appointment with Dr. Hassan. Depending on the severity of your gum disease, we can probably get you back on track with dental cleanings or periodontal therapy, which may involve scaling and root planing or periodontal surgery for advanced cases of periodontal disease.

My Tooth Aches. Could This Be Considered a Dental Emergency?

One of the most common symptoms of a cavity is a toothache or tooth sensitivity to hot and cold foods. If the pain persists, a toothache could be considered a dental emergency. Besides being a cavity, you could have a dental abscess or significant enough decay or infection that you’re a candidate for a root canal. You shouldn’t ignore a toothache. Doing so could prevent us from saving your tooth and lead to a tooth extraction. Remember, your permanent teeth don’t grow back. Call us for urgent dental care!

I Have Frequent Headaches. Could This Be Dental-Related?

Not only do chronic morning headaches make it difficult to concentrate on the day ahead, but they’re also a common symptom of TMJ disorder. Your temporomandibular joint connects your jaw and skull. When you experience pain and tension in your jaw, it can spread to other parts of your face and head. If you’ve been experiencing frequent headaches, we recommend scheduling a consultation with our dentist. Our office provides TMJ treatments, which vary from custom-fitted oral sleep devices to Invisalign® treatment if a bite misalignment is causing your chronic pain.

I Grind or Clench My Teeth at Night. How Can I Prevent This?

Bruxism is a condition many of our patients at Manassas Smiles suffer from at night. Bruxism, or excessive teeth grinding and clenching, is treatable with a custom-fitted mouth guard usually worn at night. Not treating bruxism may result in extensive damage to your teeth and their enamel over time.

Are Missing Teeth More Than a Cosmetic Dental Concern?

Missing teeth represent not only a cosmetic dental concern, but an oral health concern as well. Missing teeth often cause issues such as jawbone deterioration, sagging facial structure, additional tooth loss, and gum disease if left untreated. Don’t live with the discomfort caused by missing teeth any longer than you must. Call Manassas Smiles to schedule a consultation with our cosmetic dentist in Manassas, VA. From dental implants to veneers and dentures, we offer many restorative options at our practice.

I’m Embarrassed by My Discolored Teeth. What Can I Do?

Don’t let tooth discoloration prevent you from having a beautiful, confident smile. You have many restorative options available at Manassas Smiles, ranging from tooth bonding to teeth whitening, dental crowns, porcelain veneers, and dental implants. We’d be happy to help you determine the best natural-looking solution during a one-on-one consultation with our dentist!

I’m an Adult with Crooked Teeth. Why Should I Correct This?

It’s never too late in life to correct crooked teeth, primarily thanks to Invisalign® clear braces. Adults with crooked teeth may also experience chronic headaches, difficulty chewing, discomfort caused by TMJ disorder, tooth decay and loss caused by poor oral hygiene, and a host of other pressing issues. Find out more about how Invisalign® treatment could help you discreetly straighten your smile at any age!

What Do You Suggest for Anxiety About Visiting the Dentist?

Dental anxiety is perfectly normal among patients of all ages. At Manassas Smiles, we do our best to focus on patient education and preventative dental care to help our patients overcome their fear. In the interest of keeping our patients comfortable and calm during procedures, we offer sedation dentistry. Our staff is trained to administer both IV sedation and conscious oral sedation in the form of a pill.

What Should I Consider When Choosing a Family Dentist?

When choosing a family dentist, convenience is usually a significant factor. Is your dentist’s office close to home when you have an emergency? Does your dentist provide general dentistry for the entire family? Some dentists do not include pediatric dentistry among their offerings, although Manassas Smiles does. Many dentists also don’t provide state-of-the-art dental care, including CEREC® same-day crowns and Invisalign® clear braces, but Manassas Smiles does. If you’re looking for a family dentist in the Manassas, VA area, we encourage you to consider scheduling a consultation and tour of our facilities. We accept patients of all ages from many surrounding communities, including Centreville, Clifton, Dale City, Gainsville, Merryfield, and Warrenton. Call today!
